Active Membership

Active membership in the Society is limited to surgeons who are qualified under the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons or the Royal College of Surgeons.  In addition, applicants for membership shall furnish evidence that they have been actively engaged in the practice of vascular surgery for three years or longer. 

Applicants for membership must submit a list of vascular procedures performed the year prior to the application and this should include the operative results and complications. 

A photocopy of the Certificate of Special Qualifications or of Added Qualifications in General Vascular Surgery from the American Board of Surgery may be submitted in lieu of a twelve month summary of vascular procedures.

Candidate Membership

Candidate membership in the Society is for Residents enrolled in an accredited program of surgical education; vascular surgeons enrolled in a research or fellowship program acceptable to the Society; or practicing vascular surgeons completing vascular surgery training programs and awaiting eligibility to apply for membership.

Upgrade to Active from Candidate Membership

After five years Candidate members must upgrade to Active membership.  To accomplish this, the Candidate must provide:

  • A written request to upgrade
  • Letter of support from Chief/Chairman from the Department of Surgery
  • Summary of vascular procedures performed during the previous 12
         months OR a copy of Certificate of Special Qualifications in Vascular
         Surgery.
  • A copy of his/her curriculum vitae

Membership Application Process

Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee and the Executive Committee then voted upon by the membership at the annual meeting in March of each year. 

Deadline for receipt of completed applications is January 1st.
